July 22 2023 The Blackwell Flycatchers defeated the Santa Fe Fuego 18-10 at Fort Marcy Park, breaking open a close game with a 10-run third inning. Blackwell added two runs in each of the fourth through sixth innings and another in the ninth while finishing with 20 hits. Santa Fe collected 12 hits and scored five runs in the fifth and two in the sixth but could not overcome the deficit.
Cameron Phillips led the Flycatchers with four hits, three runs and five RBI, including two home runs. CJ Mervilus also went 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and a home run, while Jack Skantze and Ty Andrews added two and three hits, respectively. Kurt Trotter drove in three runs with a home run, and Blackwell finished with five homers overall.
Santa Fe received four RBI apiece from Omar Ortiz and Rafael Ramirez. Ortiz hit a home run and a double, while Ramirez hit two home runs and scored twice. Caine Agis added two hits, two runs, one RBI and a home run for the Fuego.
Billy Nix earned the win for Blackwell after allowing 11 hits and nine runs, all earned, in six innings with four walks and five strikeouts. Cameron Phillips pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run, and Kurt Trotter struck out three in a scoreless ninth. Jordan Izzo took the loss for Santa Fe after surrendering 11 runs, all earned, on eight hits in 2.1 innings.
